Stainless Steel 440A round bars are martensitic type of steel with good toughness. This toughness is given to the steel through heat treatment. In annealed conditions These square bars will have moderate corrosion resistance. This moderate resistance makes them completely usable in mild environments. These 440A bars are not recommended for use in high temperature applications. In comparison to that of austenitic steels the corrosion resistance in these 440A round bars is lower. The steel grade in used for the manufacture of other products like dental surgical instruments, cutlery, forged pivot pins and valve parts. Martensitic steel 440A square bars are known to lose their strength after long-term exposure to high temperatures. Also, these steel grades will lose their ductility in low temperature applications.

These steel bars are generally fabricated using techniques that involve hardening and tempering. Stainless Steel 440A bars are machined in annealed conditions for optimum results. The steel is not used for welding generally, as pre and post heating requires great care for this steel type. Preheating is done at 500 degree fahrenheit followed by a six hour annealing process.
